The Short Version

Cedar Creek Yacht Club in Nashville, Tennessee runs an annual Supper Club for its members. In past years it had been dinner and a band. The planner wanted 2026 to land differently, so she booked Josh seven months out.

He worked the cocktail hour table to table, then performed a full comedy magic show for 80 members and closed with a prediction built around the club itself. The reveal got spontaneous applause on its own. Then the room reacted a second time when they realized the prediction pointed at their own club.

The Challenge

Your real competition is your own last event.

Membership clubs have an attendance problem that most planners feel before they name it. The same members come to the same events. If this year looks like last year, next year's turnout drops.

The brief was direct: do not give us another dinner and a band.

That is a harder ask than it sounds. Background entertainment is the safe choice. Nobody complains about a band. Nobody remembers one either. What she needed was an event her members would talk about afterward, without gambling on something that could die in front of 80 people who all know each other.

What Josh Did

Cocktail hour, 5:45pm. Strolling magic.

Josh worked the room table to table. At a club event this does two jobs. It gets the members who arrived early talking to the members who arrived late, and it builds recognition, so by showtime the audience already knows who Josh is and has decided they like him. A cold open in front of a membership crowd is a much steeper climb, and adding the interactive piece during the cocktail hour eliminates that and makes them excited to see what comes after dinner.

Main show, 7:00pm. Full comedy magic show.

Guests participated from their seats. Volunteers came on stage and became integral parts of the show everyone is going to remember at the next Supper Club. At a club event that matters more than it does at a corporate event, because these people know each other socially. Watching a friend get pulled on stage and do well is the part they retell at the marina.

The close. Built for this club only.

Josh designed the finale around Cedar Creek Yacht Club specifically, leaving the audience eager to come up after the show and talk.

The Moment

The prediction reveal got spontaneous applause before the audience even fully understood what they were looking at. It worked as a piece of magic on its own.

Then the kicker landed. The numbers formed the letters of their club and the room went up a second time.

The first response is for the magic. The second response is for the connection to them.

That double reaction is the whole point of the design.

Why Clubs Book This

If you run events for a membership base, your real competition is not other entertainment. It is your own last event. Members compare this year to last year automatically, and anything with passive entertainment or no entertainment teaches them the next one is skippable.

A show that pulls members on stage and ends with something made specifically for your organization does the opposite. It gives them a reason to come back and a story to tell the members who did not.
