The Night
What you are actually walking into
Most magic shows put a performer on a stage and everyone else in rows. This one does not work that way. Disbelief: Cocktails & Conjuring is a show Josh co-founded, and it runs a couple of nights every month in the upstairs lounge at the Golden Hoosier: a small room with a bar, low light, and tables close enough that the person having the impossible happen to them is usually sitting near you.
The evening comes in pieces rather than one long set. Strolling magic works the room as people settle in. Then a stage show with comedy, mind reading, and magic built for a room that is paying attention. Then a separate close up show after that, sleight of hand at close quarters. All three are on the same ticket, and several St Louis magicians perform across the night, so you are not watching the same pair of hands all evening.
It runs about two and a half hours, it is 21+, and the crowd is the other half of the show. No two nights land the same way, because the audience is different every time.
Disbelief is the one that runs on a schedule, but it is not the only place to catch Josh. He plays other rooms around St Louis through the year, one-off nights and special events that do not follow a monthly pattern. Those go straight onto the schedule above once they are booked, so it is worth a look before you assume the next St Louis magic show is a month away.
What a night at the St Louis magic show looks like
Three different kinds of magic across one evening, all on the same ticket.

Strolling Magic
Before anything happens on stage, magic comes to you. Worked in small groups around the room, in your own hands, close enough that there is nowhere to hide anything. It is the part that gets a table of strangers talking.

Stage Show
Comedy, mind reading, and magic aimed at the whole room at once. It moves fast, it is clean enough to bring anyone to, and the people who end up helping out come off looking good rather than stuck.

Close Up Show
A separate sit-down show once the main event finishes, close enough that you get to watch the hands and still miss it. It is usually led by one of the other Disbelief magicians, so the night ends on a different pair of hands and a different style.

Planning your night
The Golden Hoosier
Upstairs Lounge · 3707 S Kingshighway Blvd, St Louis, MO 63109
Come a little early. The room is small, seating is not endless, and the people who show up with time to get a drink get the better tables. The lounge is upstairs, so head up when you arrive rather than waiting downstairs. It is the easiest St Louis magic show to get to on the south side, with street parking around Kingshighway.
Dates that are already gone are marked sold out on the schedule above. New dates get released regularly, so if the night you want is taken, the ticket page is where the next batch appears first.
For Event Planners
Want this at your own event instead?
Josh performs privately as well, for corporate events, galas, and fundraisers in St Louis and nationwide. That is a separate booking from the public show, and it gets built around your room and your program rather than a lounge full of strangers. The St Louis magician page covers formats and availability, or you can go straight to the comedy magic show and strolling magic pages.
